De Wadden was a steel-hulled, three-masted auxiliary schooner that was built in 1917 by Gebroeders Van Diepen of Waterhuizen, Netherlands. She and her two sister ships, De Lauwers and De Dollart, were ordered by the NV Nederlandsche Stoomvaart Maatschappij 'Bestevaer' (C. Goudriaan & Co.) in order to take advantage of the unique trading conditions the Dutch had during the First World War due to their neutrality.[1] She spent most of her life as an Irish Sea Trading Vessel before moving to Scotland where she would perform such roles as carrying sand, taking out fishing parties, and appearing in several TV shows after a brief stint as a houseboat[4]. In 1984, she was preserved as a museum ship in Liverpool, England[2], up until her deconstruction began on February 26th, 2024.
Unfortunately, De Wadden is now gone, the final piece of the ship being removed on March 22nd, 2024. This was done as a result of her preservation being unsustainable.[2] This website aims to collect, document, and publish all available information about the ship so that it is accessible for anyone with an electronic device to read.
